In the Goma region, near the Kanyaruchinya displaced persons camp, a medical center specializing in maternal care reached out to HWF for help. Located in an area densely populated by vulnerable people with no access to healthcare, this center supports pregnant women through every stage: prenatal consultations, deliveries (both natural and by cesarean), and early childhood follow-up. It also provides care for women who are victims of sexual violence.

As the health and security situation continues to deteriorate, the number of patients keeps rising. An operating room was set up in 2017 to address the emergency, but the center was severely lacking medical equipment. Thanks to HWF’s intervention, the center received the equipment needed to make the operating room fully functional and to improve gynecological consultations.

This project is the very definition of determination! The complexity of the geopolitical context in Goma and the lack of funding for humanitarian projects posed a real logistical and human challenge. However, thanks to our collaboration with the NGO Upendo Tu and the determination of its coordinator, Sabine Wilmotte, we successfully carried out this operation. This success is a testament to our collective commitment to solidarity. The equipment is on its way. Stay tuned for the next chapter!” – Laura Pierre, Humanitarian Project Manager at HWF
