Support to Health Center in the Heart of a Warzone
On 9 January 2026, our dedicated team loaded nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical equipment bound for the Emmanuel Cimpunda Medical Centre in Bukavu, in the province of South Kivu.
For several decades, the Kivu region has been marked by deep social and political instability. The situation deteriorated considerably in November 2021, however, when the March 23 Movement (M23) launched an armed insurgency in the region. The conflict escalated rapidly, causing large-scale displacement and leaving many people injured.
In the face of this humanitarian crisis, health facilities must be able to meet the population’s growing needs and provide quality care.
It is against this backdrop that Hospital Without Frontiers stepped in to support the Emmanuel Cimpunda Medical Centre in Bukavu. Thanks to this shipment, the centre will be able to strengthen its capacity and develop a number of essential services:
- 18 additional inpatient beds
- 3 new consultation and diagnostic stations
- An analytical laboratory
- An ultrasound service
- An operating theatre
This support will significantly improve access to healthcare for people across the region, at a time when medical needs remain immense.
